The exhibition "Il Cavalier Malosso. A Cremonese artist at the Farnese court"

From April 10, 2025 to July 13, 2025
From April 10 to July 13, the Ducal Chapel of Palazzo Farnese will host the exhibition "Il Malosso. A Cremonese artist at the Farnese court", an opportunity to discover and appreciate a prominent painter active between the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries in Piacenza, Cremona and Parma. The highlight will be the reunion, after centuries, of the so-called "Salazar Triptych", composed of the Adoration of the Shepherds, a work owned by the Banca di Piacenza, and the two canvases depicting San Sebastiano and San Diego d'Alcalà, from a private collection.
The discovery and reconstruction of the triptych, of great historical and artistic value, were possible thanks to the synergy between various institutions. A fundamental role was played by the Banca di Piacenza, owner of the central altarpiece, and by the Amici dell'Arte di Piacenza, who identified the current owners of the two side panels.

Also in Cremona an exhibition dedicated to Cavalier Malosso opened on April 4, 2025 and will end on June 8, 2025, here the common thread will be Malosso's workshop. In fact, paintings, sketches and drawings made by the artist and his workshop will be exhibited. There will also be a small selection of materials used by painters of the time, such as pigments, brushes and canvases, to offer a more in-depth look at the painting techniques of the time. A further possibility will be to witness the restoration of a work of particular interest, offering the public the opportunity to closely observe the different phases of the interventions and to understand the importance of preserving works of art.
Also in this case, in addition to the collaboration with the Civic Museums of Piacenza, the contribution of the Banca di Piacenza was of crucial importance, which, in addition to making available a fundamental "piece" of the exhibition, will provide its precious economic support to the cultural and artistic initiative; and the contribution of the Chamber of Commerce of Cremona, Mantua and Pavia and the Community Foundation of the Province of Cremona was equally fundamental, as evidence of the joint commitment to promoting and enhancing the artistic and cultural heritage of the territory.
The two exhibitions are accompanied by a single catalogue, edited by Antonio Iommelli, Stefano Macconi and Raffaella Poltronieri, which represents a precious tool for deepening the knowledge of Malosso's work and the artistic context in which he worked. The volume offers an accurate analysis of the works exhibited, accompanied by a rich iconographic apparatus and critical essays that contextualize his production in the artistic panorama of the late 16th century.
From May to July the Museums offer 5 Saturdays to discover the exhibition accompanied by the Director of the Civic Museums of Piacenza, Dr. Antonio Iommelli, curator of the Exhibition.
