Little Museum of Natural History

On May 14, the "Piccolo Museo di Storia Naturale" was presented at a press conference, a temporary initiative born from the collaboration between the Municipal Administration, the Management of the Civic Museums of Piacenza, the Società Piacentina di Scienze Naturali and the Fondazione di Piacenza e Vigevano. This project consists of temporarily re-installing a selection of works from the Civic Museum of Natural History at the Exhibition Space of Palazzo Farnese, awaiting its definitive location in the Palazzo del Governatore. The installation was made possible thanks to the joint efforts of the museum management, the Società Piacentina di Scienze Naturali and the support of the Fondazione.

The Exhibition Space of Palazzo Farnese will therefore host a significant selection of the museum's heritage, among which the precious mineralogical and malacological collections donated by the Dosi and Della Marta families stand out. The first, the result of Giovanni Dosi's fifty-year passion and studies, includes over 1,400 finds from all over the world, representing one of the most important Italian mineralogical collections. The second is a collection of fossil shells by Mario Della Marta, a self-taught enthusiast who involved numerous students in research along the Stirone. The "Little Museum of Natural History" will also offer the opportunity to admire about thirty examples of taxidermied animals of considerable value and interest, some of which are exhibited to the public for the first time.

Finally, a classroom will be set up inside Palazzo Farnese to ensure the continuity of educational courses dedicated to local schools, for which the Natural History Museum remains an important point of reference.
